Planning double-hung windows
Review sash balance, cleaning access and clearance for interior window treatments.
Options and tradeoffs
Compare sash operation, tilt features, screens and sightlines using a working sample. Confirm how each sash will be reached and cleaned, especially where furniture or exterior access makes routine use awkward.
How to scope the work
The installer should check the opening and fit the frame so both sashes travel and lock properly. Final review should include balance operation, meeting-rail alignment, screens and the intended ventilation positions.
Comparing estimates
Specify which openings receive double-hung units and list the exact glazing and hardware package. Clarify whether screens, trim changes and adjustments to retained surrounding material are included in the installation price.
After the project
Keep tracks clear and follow the product instructions when tilting sashes for cleaning. If a sash will not stay in position, request a hardware assessment rather than forcing it or improvising support.
